JOIN US!
We recruit people with scientific and engineering enthusiasm.
We place importance on the diversity of people. In our research field biomedical imaging, you can exploit any of your back grounds, such as optics, electronics, mechanics, information science, system engineering, physics, analytic theory, statistic, biology, medicine and even economics. Don't you want to get into this field by arming with your own expertise?
OPTION 1. Graduate and Under Graduate Students
We recruit graduate and undergraduate students who want to study biomedical optics, optical coherence tomography, and three-dimensional polarization microscope. The research topic ranges from imaging theory, basic/clinical instrumentation, image processing to clinical application.
Individual research subject is tailored for each student based on their interests, backgrounds, and skills. You can make your own project.
Feel free to contact Yoshiaki Yasuno (group leader) for more details. You may also directly contact our lab members to know more. See PEOPLE page for contact information.
UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION
Both master's and PhD students of my group (COG) study at Doctoral Program in Applied Physics, Graduate School of Pure and Applied Science.
Master's course has admission exams twice a year. The applications deadline of the first examination is in the mid May and the exam is held in August. For the second exam, the application deadline is early January and the exam is in February. The students are requested to pass one of the exams. For the details, please see "Master's program, Applied Physics" section in this admission information site.

To those with specialty other than engineering or physics, such as biology and medicine.
We are happy to work with wide-range talents. If you want to join us, don't worry about your background. The entrance exam for the Doctoral course is a presentation about what you did in your previous study. You are expected to know about your specialty but not necessarily expected to be an expert of engineering or physics.
For the entrance exam of master's course, you are expected to have the knowledge of engineering and physics. But you don't need to give up. You also try the graduate school of medicine of Univ. of Tsukuba, or even other universities who are my collaborators. And you can study in our group.
You can enroll with your own expertise! Contact Yasuno for more information.
There have been a several people with varieties of background who had earned PhD in my group. Some are officially students of other universities and some others are medical experts. Forget about your background limits, and let's study together with us.
SCHOLARSHIP AND EMPLOYMENT
Doctoral course students are encouraged to apply for scholarship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Once you've selected, you are supported by JSPS with a monthly scholarship of 200,000 JPY/month. So you can concentrate on your study and don't need to worry about your breads. We had so far six PhD students, and four out of them were accepted for the JSPS scholarship.
The PhD students who were not selected for the JSPS scholarship can be supported by our research budget. The salary is a little less than the JSPS scholarship, but it should be more than enough for your breads.
Although it is not as much as that of the PhD students, Master's students as well as bachelor candidate also can be partially supported by our research grant.
OPTION 2. Post Doctoral Researcher
We are recruiting post doctoral researchers who can work for our projects (1) "Next-Generation Optical Coherence Tomography" project supported by Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) through a contract on "Local Innovation Ecosystem Formation Program," and (2) some of collaborative research projects organized with our industrial collaborators.
Current opening is for projects about dermatological and ophthalmic Jones matrix OCT, three-dimensional quantitative Jones matrix microscopy. The project covers instrumentation, signal processing, image processing tailored for multi-contrast OCT imaging, preliminary clinical study on ophthalmology, ophthalmology and oncology, and image-based diagnostic technologies. Don't worry. you are NOT expected to be an expert of all of these background.
We are also looking for researchers who are interested in various subjects not only about the project above. We are quite happy to create a new research project with you. In the case, let's start exchanging our ideas!
If you are interested in joining my group, contact Yoshiaki Yasuno.
RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
Postdoctoral fellow supported by other foundations such as the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) are also welcome. If you are interested in contact Yasuno for more information. We can support your fellowship application.
OPTION 3. Collaboration and Exchange
We welcome mid-term (months) and long term (years) exchange students / researchers.
I have accepted exchange students from other graduate schools including ones from overseas . Contact Yasuno for details.
